MediaPortal 1.2.0 final release details

I want to thank everyone who helped testing the development builds of MediaPortal 1.2.0.
There were no showstopper issues found in 1.2.0 RC.

We have already started testing a final build internally and if all goes according to plan, then we will release 1.2.0 final with just a few small modifications on next Monday 2011-09-12!

*update 2011-09-10* - Release has been postponed to Monday 2011-09-19

The only changes from 1.2.0 RC are:

  • updated tuning details (dvb-s transponder lists)
  • updated webepg grabbers
  • a few updates to default skin

Any other issues reported in the 1.2.0 RC release by the community will be fixed in a 1.2.x or 1.3.0 release, depending on the scale of the fix.

What happens after the release of 1.2.0 final?

Extension Repository on the website:
Extension authors will be able to upload their 1.2.0 final compatible versions to the repository!
This means that you will also able to use the MediaPortal Extensions Installer to update your locally installed extensions easily (of course that only works if the extension author supports the mpe format.)

Extensions forum cleanup:
As you know, popular extensions have their own subforum inside the extensions section of our forums.
In an effort to keep the forums as clean and clear to the users as possible, we will move the sub-forums of extensions that were abandoned (and not compatible 1.2.0 final) to the graveyard sections.

This will be done about 1 month after the release of 1.2.0 final, to give the authors enough time to update their work.

MP1 migration to GIT(hub)
As announced in an earlier news, we will migrate the MP1 project from SVN to Git. This migration will start some time next week. I will post a separate news about the details. Also watch our Facebook and Twitter for status updates.
The development pages in the wiki referring to how to get code from our SVN server will be updated to provide the info for GitHub.

Support MediaPortal!

The team works very hard to make sure the community is running the best HTPC-software. We give away MediaPortal for free but hosting and software is not for us.

Care to support our work with a few bucks? We'd really appreciate it!
