The release of MediaPortal 1.0 was a very big milestone in our history.
But we did not rest since the release of it. As you can see in our changelogs and roadmaps (see "Status Overview" on the right side of the homepage), we have already fixed a lot of issues and did some useability improvements.
This will be a maintenance release fixing issues with the 1.0 version and providing some useability enhancements.
We are currently also looking into the possibility of creating a "Patch" which will update your 1.0 installation to 1.0.1, without losing any config setting.
But please be aware, that because of the changes, it might be required that you update all of your community plugins and skins to a 1.0.1 version.
This means that at the release day we will hopefully be able to provide you with 2 installers.
We are aiming for a release of MediaPortal 1.0.1 and the 1.0 to 1.0.1 Patch on March the 15th 2009.
- One MediaPortal 1.0.1 Installer
- and an MediaPortal 1.0 to 1.0.1 Patch
MediaPortal Extensions (Community Skins and Plugins)
One of the biggest advantages of MediaPortal have always been the skins and plugins created by our community which considerably extend the MediaPortal experience.
Finding the right plugin and then managing the installation was sometimes quite painful for the end-user.
This was the reason to create the "MediaPortal Extensions Installer", which has been included in MediaPortal for quite a long time.
- It allows the user to browse a list of available extensions hosted on our webserver.
- You can directly download and install it from the application.
- You can even check if there is an updated version of the extension you use, and install it.
But to our surprise, literally none of the currently active community skins nor plugins are available in MPI format.
Now with the upcoming releases of MediaPortal 1.0.1 and 1.0.2, we want MPI to become the only way to distribute community skins and plugins, in order to improve the useability for our end-user.
We are aware that MPI suffers limitations which lead to the current situation.
So we are asking for the feedback and wishes of our community skin designers and plugin developers, because we want to re-work MPI to fit their needs and the needs of our users. Please have a look at the thread we created in our forums , and let us know what your wishes for MPI are.
