Add metadata from TVE3-Recordings to MediaPortal

Hey MediaPortal-Fanatics!

I’ve been forced by i-loop to write my first blog entry to revive the Team Blog…so what can I say??? I guess it’s the best to comment on something useful and – although it useful – I was involved

It's about adding the metadata from TVE3-Recordings to the MediaPortal.

As you may know, I am a MediaPortal Tester. I can not code myself and I contribute by finding bugs and nagging for missing functions. This I did with a in my mind missing function with TVEngine 3:

 

With good old TVEngine 2 it was – due to the fact that whole MediaPortal Databases based on SQLite – no problem to have the guide info with your own recordings if they are started via MyVideos. With the TVEngine 3 that’s a whole other story. It is based on an other Database (MSSQL or MySQL) and so it wasn’t that easy to have the guide data available in the MediaPortal plugin MyVideos. (If the playing of your recordings was started via MyTV->Recorded the guide data was still there because then the MyTV-Plugin of the TVEngine 3 was used).

So we had some discussions on IRC (thanks to Muldini, dero and chefkoch for the input) and I nagged some devs to have a look at that issue. At last, the legendary dev gemx, took control over that issue and it was nearly instantly solved:

“Just implemented this feature in TvServer and MediaPortal.

In Configuration.exe|Recording options you can choose if you want to create a Matroska tagged xml file for each recording which currently only includes the following infos:

• title
• description/plot
• genre

The tag definition is taken from http://www.matroska.org/technical/specs/tagging/index.html

This file is also used by MediaPortal's GUIVideo plugin if no IMDB info is found.”

So what can I say more? I like to add that gemx even was aware of the danger of having too many xml-files in the recordings-directory and implemented the deletion of these .xmls when the recordings are deleted in MediaPortal. So no messing around with manual deletion of files. And if you use the great comskip-plugin from and-81, it even deletes the .txts created by comskip if not needed anymore.

I think that’s enough for now. Thanks to all involved Testers and devs and keep up the great work. It’s a real pleasure to be involved in this fantastic project!
