On the Couch: Dadeo

******************************Note From The Blogger*******************************

On the Couch will be a weekly blog, each week featuring a different member of the Team/Community. They have a list of questions they can select to answer and a brief section at the end, named Speak Out!, where they can ramble on needlessly if they wish. This blog will be published each Monday (Yes, I am late for the first one, my apologies)

On the Couch: Dadeo

#1 (10/31/2011)

How did you first find MediaPortal?

Google - looking to replace my VCR and no DVR was available here at the time.

Coke vs. Pepsi?

Neither, they both eat teeth.

What is your favorite feature of MediaPortal?

Not a feature, rather the community - so many cool, brilliant people give so much to create such an awesome media center for free! It's still what motivates me to participate. As for features, it's not just one, is the overall flexibility and almost infinite options to use MP the way you like.

What are some of your favorite plugins?

MyFilms and TVSeries and all the online radio plugins - Rockstar (Grooveshark/Spotify), Radiotime (TuneIn) and StreamRadio, plus Youtube.fm and now mvCentral for music videos.

What are some of your favorite skins?

aMPed of course! I'm biased I can't live without all the extra features now. But I love the creativity of cul8er's skins CLR and Backdrop, the beauty of Black Glass design, and I'm looking forward to trying Avalon and Mustayaluca.

What is the most bizarre dream you have ever had?

That people listened to me.

Eddie Izzard vs. Eddie Murphy?

Izzard all the way.

Have you tried other media center software, and how did it compare?

I tried GB-PVR and Hauppauge's MediaMVP extender before MP, but MP was like science fiction in comparison, it did so much more! I have tried each new version of Windows Media Center - and I love the Setup and ease of TV - but it is too restrictive for me, and I could not stand the interface.

Star Wars vs. Star Trek?

Star Wars - I got too confused by all the variations of Star Trek. But Farscape is my fav sci fi show.

What MediaPortal projects are you currently active in?

aMPed skin, My Films plugin, MP Team/Docs Group - Wiki, Home Page (website), Downloads Repository and some PR.

What future MediaPortal projects do you have planned?
Too many - but my big goal is a skin that users can almost design themselves - aMPed is getting there. Next up is a theme creator/editor and, with luck, a layout selector/manager.

What do you do for a living?

Officially retired (but it doesn't feel like it!). I worked as an IT consultant specializing in online public info databases for libraries, info centers etc..

What is your browser homepage set to?

Blank, because all my browsers open 50 different pages on load, mostly for MP

Speak Out:

I always do Laughing

About The Project

The vision of the MediaPortal project is to create a free open source media centre application, which supports all advanced media centre functions, and is accessible to all Windows users.

In reaching this goal we are working every day to make sure our software is one of the best.

Support MediaPortal!

The team works very hard to make sure the community is running the best HTPC-software. We give away MediaPortal for free but hosting and software is not for us.

Care to support our work with a few bucks? We'd really appreciate it!
