Monitor your music folders (shares) to update your music database on the fly

Setup

Note: As of MP 1.1.0 this plugin no longer requires any separate configuration or setup and thus does not appear in Configuration > Plugins.  To enable it:

1. Go to Configuration > Music > Music Database
2. Check the box "Auto-Update DB on changes in share"

If the box is checked, the plugin is enabled; when unchecked the plugin is disabled.

How Does Music Share Watcher Work?

With a large number of songs it can be time consuming to run an update of the entire database (see Configuration > Music >Database) every time a new song is added or an existing song is removed or renamed, or some tags change.

The Music Share Watcher constantly monitors changes on files and subdirectories in the music shares, defined in Configuration > Music > Folders  and updates the MediaPortal Music Database on the fly. 

Music Share Watcher works on all files supported by the Tag reader. So all the music files that are currently detected will also be processed by this plugin. 

Monitored events

• Create: When a file is being copied somewhere into the share, the tags of the file are being read and the Music Database is updated. Artist, Album, etc. are created, if they don't already exist. 
• Change: An existing file has been changed, because of Tags have been updated. The updated Tag information is written into the Music Database
• Delete: A single file or a complete directory structure is deleted. The songs related to that path are removed. Also Artists, Albums and Genres with no songs are removed.
• Rename: Either a Directory or a File is being renamed. The Music Database is updated. For a Directory change the Path is corrected.
