AMD CPUs with onboard video

Heat vs Speed
- The faster the CPU, the hotter it gets
- The faster the CPU, the smoother MediaPortal will run
- The faster the CPU, more simultaneous tasks can be done
Now, with all of these there is a major trade off, and that is the first point. the heat. This is more of an issue for Intel processor owners as generally, they are the hotter CPU (when compared to AMD products).
More Speed = Heat
The trade off here is that whilst we want a slick, fast and smooth Media Portal experience, the faster the CPU we put into our PC, the hotter it gets. And the hotter the CPU gets, the more air required to keep the CPU cool. And the more air we move around our systems, the louder they get. And the louder they get, the less acceptible they become in our living and lounge rooms. So when organising your hardware, have a think about hwat tasks your Media Portal PC will do, and buy the hardware to suit.
EG. If you only want to perform standard functions, like record one digital channel and watch another digital channel at the same time. A 2.0 GHz CPU will do just fine, and it wont be too hard to keep cool
More Speed = Smoother
This is only an issue when you have low end hardware. If you have a slow 1GHz CPU and an older video card and you are running Media Portal on a TV at a high resolution, then you may see a slight jerkyness to Media Portal, this is not caused by the application, but by your hardware. You first need to determine which part of your system is causing the bottle neck, and upgrade the components to suit your installation.
More Speed = More Tasks
This is what we are after isn't it? Like above, a 2GHz CPU will be fine for recording and watching of different channels, or Listening to a disk based CD and watching a slide show. So any more horsepower then this will be overkill. That is unless you are recording in 1080p, then you will need a faster CPU, say 2.8GHz or better.
