General & Activities settings

These are the client specific settings you configure after adding a client and having a working connection. Read 'Setting up MPiV' for instructions about adding clients and establishing a connection

General

  • Default client on launch
For multi-client setup it’s possible to select the default client at launch or to ask every time MPiV is started.
  • Screen dimmer
Select type of dimming and time-out after last button press before the dimming starts. Select type of dimming:
    • Eve dimming – Dark panel dimms the screen; will not change device screen brightness.
    • System dimming – Dark panel dimms the screen and also reduces device screen brightness. Give most dimming and also reduces power consumption. Downside is that the reduced screen brightness is sometimes kept if closing the app before removing the dimming, i.e. if pressing iPad Home button when the screen is dimmed.
  • Update
Check for update of MediaPortal iViewer on remote server:
    • Startup
    • Always install new updates without asking
    • Never check for updates
    • Check for update now
  • Logger active
The logger is intended for when getting support if something is not working properly. By default it’s inactive and will then only log during initialization. Activate this setting to log all activities during app usage. The log can be displayed by pressing the ‘Display Log’ button or by holding the cogwheel in top bar for five seconds. The log can be emailed to support by pressing the ‘Send’ button. An email will then be created with the log as email content.
  • Allow streaming on 3g
Disable if you only want to be able to stream media when using wifi.
  • Send Wake On Lan at startup
WOL messages will be sent to client MAC address if this setting is activated.
  • Use gzip compression for requests
Use gzip compression for all the requests to MPExtended. This will reduce the amount of data that is transferred and can therefore decrease loading times
  • Theme
Choose one of the four backgrounds. Aurora, Nebula, Vortex or DarkPro

Controls

  • Animation to reveal control panels
If you experience any lag in the revealing of control panels you might to want to disable animations. This can be handy if you run MPiV on a first generation iPad
  • Out of Sight Navigation in Remote
Displays briefly a panel in the regular remote that show the selected activity and focused item in MediaPortal. Can be extremely useful when navigating MediaPortal with the D-pad and have to look at the iPad's screen.
  • Automatically display Now Playing
If active the large now playing control panel at the bottom of the screen will be displayed at media start. If inactive the small now playing panel will instead be displayed. To activate the large Now Playing screen just press 'Controls' in the bottom tapbar.

Home

  • Scroll media at first tap
The behavior when pressing the Tiles depends on this setting.
    • When active: Pressing once on a Tile shows you the latest relevant media added to your system. Pressing twice and you jump to the chosen Activity.
    • When inactive: Jump to chosen Activity at first press.?
  • Animation for auto scroll
When active; animation is used for sliding the latest media panels.
  • Show latest media in Home screen (where each mediatype has a corresponding setting)
When active, the corresponding activity will show its latest media. Not applicable to Radio.

Follow below activity specific (Movies, Series, Music etc.) settings. Each activity has a ‘Use this activity’ entry*.* If enabled the corresponding activity will be initialized at startup. In disabled the activity will not be initialized and the activity tile in Home will be grayed out. The activities Movies, Series, Recordings and Live TV have configurable default streaming profiles, for both local network and for 3g, which will be used when starting a stream. Streaming profile can also be changed during playback of the stream.

Several settings are defaults that also can be changed inside the activities. E.g. view type can be changed in the Movie activity (list, thumb or wall view) or streaming profiles that can be changed in the video player during playback of a stream.

Movies

  • Default view
Default setting for view type. List, Thumb or Wall view.
  • Default sort and filtering
Sort according to ‘Title’, ‘Date’ (date added) or ‘Year’. Filter on watched status (‘Watched’ or ‘Unwatched’) and/or filter on Genre.
  • Default order
Movies sorted in ‘Ascending’ or ‘Descending’ order.

Series

  • Default view
Default setting for view type. List or thumb view.
  • Default sort and filtering
Sort according to ‘Title’, ‘Date’(date added) or ‘Year’. Filter on watched status (‘Watched’ or ‘Unwatched’) and/or filter on Genre.

    • selection of Channel group.

  • Default Channel group
    Select the default channel group

Pictures

  • Use retina resolution if possible
If active(and the device has a retina panel); all images will be loaded in retina resolution. Non-retina images can save bandwidth and therefore reduce loading times on slow networks or 3g connections.

Music

  • Autoplay playlists
Defines the action for the top left button (amongst the quad buttons) when a playlist is selected. If the settings is inactive the button will be ‘Load’, i.e. the playlist is loaded into MediaPortal. When the setting is active the button will be ‘Play’, i.e. the playlist is loaded in MediaPortal and playback is directly started.

Recordings

  • Default sort and filtering
Sort according to ‘Title’, ‘Channel’ or ‘Date’ (date added)
  • Default order
Recordings ordered as ‘Ascending’ or ‘Descending’
