Media

The most important part for MP2 is the included media library that holds all your music, movies and pictures.

The media library stores all information about "Media Items", which can be videos, pictures and audio files. There are currently basic metadata extractors to read information from the Media Items. The default skin can show and use this metadata.

In this alpha version of MediaPortal 2 we provide following medata extractors and information:

• Movie (based on MediaInfo): title, mimetype, aspect ratio, width, height, play time, fps, audio+video streams, thumbnails
• Picture (based on EXIF informations): width, height, date, comment, make, model, fnumber, iso speed rating, metering mode, orientation, thumbnails
• Audio (based on TagLib): title, play time, artists, album, album artist, bitrate, comment, composers, genres, tracks, date
• BluRay: title

We currently have no online scraper (like IMDB) implemented. The extension of metadata and scrapers is planned and described in this wiki page: http://wiki.team-mediaportal.com/2_MEDIAPORTAL_2/Contribute/Development/3_Concepts/Metadata_system

Weather

The weather plugin provides basic weather information of your configured locations. You can configure the locations under

Home->Settings->Plugins->Weather->Setup locations

Video Players

Playback of video files, DVDs, TV recordings and even BluRays (unprotected only, title mode - no menu support). Video players allow a post-processing (sharpen, blur, glass window effect and others). The LAV splitter and decoders are recommended to install.

Audio Player

Playback of audio files.

Picture Player

Play pictures as slideshow using different transition effects.

IrInput Plugin

For supporting many available remotes we have the IrServer plugin that connects to the separately available IR Server.

Removable Media Manager

The Removable Media Manager plugin allows you to playback Media Items from removable media. Depending on the type of removable media, you are asked what you like: play the DVD, add audio files to a playlist, show pictures in a slideshow.

Note: this plugin also scans attached USB devices (USB sticks, HDDs) and tries to read all available Media Items. This can take a long time when you are using "Local Media Navigation" or "Browse Media" (when attached to MP2 server). It is planned to improve this plugin after the first Alpha release!
