How to optimise HDTV in Australia

Welcome and thanks for taking an interest in MediaPortal. The dev crew here work hard and we hope all u guys appreciate it ;)

Ill introduce myself, my nick is SiLenTYL!

I live in Melbourne, Australia, am an MP tester and have been a fan of Frodo's work ever since xbplayer ;)

Now to the juicy part.

Dvico card users! MP 0.2 RC2 is out and all Dvico cards are supported (except the 2 new ones - hybrid and dual digital - im getting the DD soon).  I have a Dvico DVB-T USB2 device connected to my HTPC, running MP..and it works very well!

Also, there no reason to buy other codecs when you can use the Dvico Zulu decoders with MP!

Oz tv users can enjoy an electronic tv guide (\"Settings\"->\"Setup Wizard\")

Ive have come up with a setup which works for me.  I have :

MSI MEGA 865 Deluxe

P4 3.2Ghz

ATI 9800 Pro 128MB

2x512 Corsair DDR400 PC3200 XL Pro (matched pair)

250Gig Seagate SATA HDD

Dvico DVB-T USB2 ( FusionHDTV 3.3Beta1 (3.21.01) version )

LG DVD-ROM

MCE Remote control

MS Wireless Keyboard & Mouse

DVD & MOVIES

-------------------

Audio Renderer : Default DirectSound Renderer

Audio Codec : Mpg/Ac3/DTS/LPCM audio filter

Video Codec : Zulu HDTV Video Decoder(BDA)

DVD Navigator : DVD Navigator

Video Renderer : Video Mixing Renderer 9 - Renderless

TV

--

Video Codec : Zulu HDTV Video Decoder(BDA)

Audio Codec : Mpg/Ac3/DTS/LPCM audio filter

Video Renderer : Video Mixing Renderer 9 - Renderless

Deinterlace Mode : BOB

DONE!

Hope you enjoy it!

I know i AM :)

Hi SiLenTYL,

I have a DNTV Live! Pro card installed in my XP SP2 desktop.

I've downloaded and installed MediaPortal. It looks nice, has all the options i need, sees my card but can't tune the channels.

After a fresh install of Media Portal (tried both 0.1.3 and 0.2RC2) I run through the TV setup wizard. My first question is, from the list of capture cards available, which one should I choose? I have:

DNTV Live! Pro Video Capture (General S/W encoding card)
DNTV Live! Pro Transport Stream Capture
DNTV Live! Pro Video Capture (General MCE Card)
DNTV Live! Pro Transport Stream Capture (General MCE Card)
DNTV Live! Pro Video Capture (General H/W encoding card)
DNTV Live! Pro Transport Stream Capture (General H/W encoding card)

Clear as mud to me

To keep things simple I have chosen to use the first option in the list, DNTV Live! Pro Video Capture (General S/W encoding card) When I click on the 'Autotune' button the progress bar zips along nicely but it seem to only be looking for analog stations. How do I tell the application to scan for Digital TV? I also live in Melbourne, would you happen to have a preconfigured 'stations' file available if such a thing exists?

Thanks in advance,

Greg.

Hi SilenTYL,

I live in Melbourne too. As a tester and user of Media Portal, I would appreciate if you could help me to install an USB2.0 HDTV external box as part of Media Portal.

I have installed Media Portal 1.3 with DirectX9c and .NET Framework 1.1. My PC is an IBM ThinkCentre 3.0 GHz with 512 MB RAM and Internal M/B Graphics at the moment. I am hoping to convert this to a full-fledged HTPC in the near future with the correct add-on cards/external units/RAM/HDD etc. For a start I wanted to try this external box.

The external unit I am trying to install as part of Media Portal is an YESS DVBT-288U USB2.0 HDTV Receiver which has its own software for recordinbg, timeshifting and a few other basic functions.

I have tried a few initial set up proceedures using the MP Setup and Wizard, but don't seem to be able to get it going.

Could you help me to incorporate this external unit as part of Media Portal for watching, recording, time-shifting, scheduled recording etc.

Thanks and Best regards

Hi SiLenTYL,

I've got a DVico DVB-T card and when I install the 3.30.01 driver it shows 4 different but identically named "Zulu HDTV Video Decoder (DBA)" decoders as well as about another 6 DVico & Zulu decoders for MPEG2, divx & DxVA. Which one are of the 4 identically named ones are you using as I keep getting "no signal detected" black screens.

Any help greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Greg

Hoping you can help me I am running windows xp pro with a Kworld DVBT100 HD PCI DTV card. It ships with its own software and is running fine but media portal can't even see that it is installed. Any ideas on how to make media portal recognise it?

Hi SiLenTYL,
Seems like many from Melbourne. Anyway think the dev crew are all good in producing a great package. On the same question from above have you yet been able to test the Dvico Dual HD DVB card?
