MediaPortal is a free open source media center software, ideal for turning your PC into a very advanced multi media center, or Home Theater PC(HTPC). And that's only the basic features!

MP Survey 2012 Sneak Peak!

Only two weeks left to complete the survey and provide your input and feedback about MediaPortal!

As promised last week here is another update on our MediaPortal Survey 2012:

As you can clearly see in the above stats, the voting numbers keep going up! We are really proud that so many people took their time to complete the survey. Especially the overall number of 8437 is pretty nice. Of course we hope that the number of those voting will keep on rising. The sky is the limit! =)

You also can see that PART V received considerably less votes than PART I. So we want to remind you that PART V gives you the chance to rate MediaPortal overall and provide input on future development. Especially the very last question "What will keep you with MediaPortal in the future, and what can we do to improve/introduce into MP2?" inspired some really interesting answers. These answers will not be forgotten and we definitely will try to mention them in our presentation of the final results.

So if you haven't completed PART V already, please do so. You can just complete PART V separately. We hope in the last

1.3.0 Alpha - final phase of development

MediaPortal 1.3.0 has entered it's final phase of development.
Next week on Friday the 18th, we will have all changes that are part of 1.3.0 Alpha merged with the master and build a team internal test-version.

If all goes well, then you will be able to download 1.3.0 Alpha one week later on Friday the 25th!

1.3.0 Alpha brings you some very exciting new features, enhancements and bugfixes. But there is still one more week time to add more!

However, for that to happen we need the help of our great community. With the Area 51 section in our forums we offer you the exclusive chance to test changes long before they are part of an MediaPortal Alpha version.
Everyone in the community has the power to speed up the development process of those changes by testing them and provide feedback.

So with one week development time left, the community can give 1.3.0 Alpha a boost by heading over to the Area 51 section and help us testing the WIP projects.

It has been over three years since our last survey. Times and technology have changed a lot, and so has MediaPortal!

Therefore we've created a new survey: MediaPortal Survey 2012

This survey helps us keep up to date with what hardware/configurations MediaPortal users are using, and provides valuable feedback which helps us plan development.

The survey is 100% anonymous and will be open to receive feedback until June 9, 2012, About one week later, we will share the results with you.

Since MediaPortal is such an extensive software, we have many questions. So we have divided the survey into parts:

Questions about your HTPC setup

Questions about other HTPC software

Questions about video/TV playback in MP

We are proud to announce the creation of 2 new language support forums,

These are for those who prefer to speak in their Russian and Spanish native tongue respectively. As always the English language forum will be the main support area for those that need help. Since we as a community work on a user to user support system, this should greatly help those people who struggle with communicating exactly what they want, in any but their native language.

We would like to thank our new moderators for their support in making the translations available, without them none of this would have been possible.

Russian MaxT and Vasilich

Spanish z3us, peque and bodiroga

Hopefully with these additional support forums, our user base will expand to many countries that speak these languages natively, which may have held them back in the past.

We wish them all the best.

We are fast approaching the Alpha release of MP 1.3.0! To further enhance the stability of our product, we now include only changes that have been fully tested and documented.

This means that our developers post threads in the Area 51 section of the forum depending on the scale of the change, you can download either a full installer, or binary files for testing.

So the community plays a very big role in the process of determining which changes will be included in a release and which will not because you can now test every single feature during its development!

We have set 18 May 2012 as the deadline for changes to be finalized and merged with the master of our GIT repository.
The release of 1.3.0 Alpha is then planned for 14 days later.

So head over to Area 51, and help us testing. The more testing these changes receive, the higher the chances are that you will see them included in 1.3.0, and the faster development will proceed to the final release.

The MediaPortal Team is very proud to announce our first Alpha release of the long anticipated MediaPortal 2.

You can find the download link at the bottom of these release notes, but it has been placed at the bottom for a reason. There are few things you need to understand before you begin the installation.

This is an "Alpha Release", meaning support & features will be on the lighter side, while bugs and errors could be on the heavier side.

MP2 can only be installed on the Windows 7 OSes. XP and Vista are not supported at this time.

While most people will download MP2 to "check it out", we need to know what you think, so please help us by filling in bug reports. Find out how here.

You can have MP2 installed and working along side your MP1 installation. Have no fear that looking at MP2 will harm your MP1 setup.

There are not many plugins supported for MP2 as of yet, so do not think that MP2 is ready to replace your MP1... remember this is an Alpha Release.

Why MediaPortal 2?

Normally in this section of MediaPortal's release notes, we go over changes

We are very happy and proud to present you our new forums!

What if I see no difference?

We did not only change our forum software, but also moved to an other server. So if you still end up on the old forums when you click at the "Forum" button in the menu, then your DNS has not updated yet. For some ISPs this takes a few hours, for others it can take up to 2 days. The only thing you can do is wait.

But in the meantime you can access the new forum through this alternative link.

Sandbox

We have started an sandbox thread where you can do test posts if you want to.

PM's are now Conversations

In our old forums we had private messages, or pm's. In xenforo we now have conversations. Who ever tried to talk with more than 1 person in private will love this new feature.

Basically it works like a private thread. You just start a conversation and then add as many participants to it as you want.

Customizeable display of Signatures

We know that many users are annoyed by "too long signatures". Yet there are also many users who find them

#2 (1/21/2012)

This week's blog, as the title implies, is our 2nd 'What Sayeth You?' blog, and it is all about MediaPortal's stock videos/movies database handler, MyVideos. There has been a ton of work already done in it in 1.2 and so many more on the way. Just like our last WSY blog (The Good, The Bad The Ugly), this one will use a theme from a popular movie or TV show.

So let's take MyVideos ...

Now, before we jump in the car to head back to 1955 (MyVideos 1.0) and start our look at MyVideos, I want to give everyone a breakdown of the blog. We will be looking at MyVideos recent history of the version included with MediaPortal 1.0, a look at it's present state and current features of 1.2.2, as well as a look at some of the plans and possibilities of any future versions 1.2.x/1.3.x.

Oh, and please don't be confused by my attempt to be clever by using the Back to the Future timeline years (1955, 1985 2015)!!
