The first public build of MediaPortal II (Codename: Infinity) is NOW available. We call this a "preview" because it is still in a very early stage. Both the GUI and the functionality is just a quick sample to make use of some features for testing purposes. Don't worry about its stability, look or usabilty at this point. However we want to give
everyone an early Christmas present and something to play with for the
holiday period - so here it is:

The release of MediaPortal 0.2.3.0 and the announcement of MediaPortal 2 do not implicit that the "good old MediaPortal I" is abandoned. Our next goal is to create a stable MediaPortal - TV-Server solution, which means to work towards a MediaPortal 1.0 and TV-Server 1.0. For those who fear the chance: MediaPortal 1.0 will still contain the inbuild TV-Engine.
So the main focus for the 1.0 releases is on stability and useability. This means that you will not see many (if any) new features in these releases.
About a year ago some of the team members came together to discuss the future of MediaPortal. We evaluated the current situation and realized that we where running into problems. Over the last few years MediaPortal has grown and grown and we've reached a point where it is getting harder and harder to get MediaPortal stable and add new features to MediaPortal. This means release schedules kept moving and developers where spending more time fixing bugs then actually adding new features or enhancing existing features.
The time has come! During the last month Team MediaPortal was busy fixing almost every issue you've reported for the RC3. Now the final version of 0.2.3.0 is out and can be considered the next stable release.
The new installer is Vista-approved and does work quite well on most systems.
Here it is! The (hopefully) last Release Candidate on our road to your ultimative HTPC experience - grab MediaPortal 0.2.3.0 RC3 while it is hot! Recently some bigger code changes were needed to get rid of limititations we couldn't bear any longer. Therefore we decided to throw out another Pre-Release.
One of the fundamental changes is our switch to NSIS
(Nullsoft Scriptable Install System). NSIS gives us more flexibility
creating advanced installers which will allow a lot of customisation. With the RC3 release we mainly want to make sure that this new installer is working nicely.
Further changes have been done mainly to the music section which database is almost a complete rewrite. Inspired by MeediOS we simplified the database layout but also improved its performance. And when you're done with scanning your music shares you might enjoy the new grabber for artist images and album covers which has been added to the audioscrobbler plugin.
We are already curious about your experience. If your feedback is
mostly positive then the MediaPortal 0.2.3.0 final version will be
released quite soon.
