This I my eyes MP is the HTPC frontend! 
-I know MS has 'some sort of application' as well ;-)

Apparently they know too as default skin stinks of MCE influence far too much... 
 
Please do us all a favor and dump those two default skins, I use MP cause MCE sucks on both '05 and vista, not because I want MP to be them. 
Let's avoid all the..."they copied MCE" claims right off by tossing these skins and that menu setup away. 
 
When you have so many great skinners taking MPI to new heights, why take a step backward by mimicking a proprietary piece of junk? 
 
It's like sane usability went down the drain when that menu/skin model was picked
