1. Cross-platform?
I LOVE you!!! 
Will you be considering a cross-platform approach? 
As you point out, uses for mediaportal are so diverse and it would be great to have support for other platforms ie linux, mac and windows mobile/symbian. 
If it's as modular as you say, presumably people will be free to code apps for other platforms. 
Please, TELL ME MORE ;p

2. Cross Platform
There is already a cross platform PVR project, called MythTV. MP2 will be better served putting resources into a great Windows PVR rather then replicating MythTV.
