MediaPortal / TV-Server 1.0 RC2 released!
Written by Team MediaPortal, on 18-07-2008

Nearly 3 months after the release of MediaPortal 1.0 RC1 we are pleased to announce that MediaPortal RC2 is available for download.

This Release:
We have put our main efforts into bug fixing for stability and usability again. According to our roadmap every RC1 specifc bug could be fixed.

Unfortunately we had to remove the "MyTrailers" and "MyMusicVideos" plugins from the installation package because both plugins are broken and unmaintained. Their original developers are not active anymore and trying to get the code working again would delay the complete product for another few weeks.

We want to thank everyone who took the time to created proper reports and to those who submitted patches.
You
pushed MediaPortal forward.

A detailed list of changes is available on the following pages.

What happens next:
Next step on our Roadmap is to get rid of the remaining issues and verify that the changes we did for RC2 are working.

If all goes as expected then it will be a quite small step between RC2 and RC3. And (hopefully) a even shorter one from RC3 to final.

Installation:
Before you install MediaPortal 1.0 RC2 please verify that your system meets the requirements.

During our tests we had noticed that in some cases the uninstallation of a running TV-Server might fail. We will try to fix that for the RC3 release.
To avoid issues we recommend that you manually uninstall MediaPortal and/or the TV-Server before you launch the RC2 installer.

If you recently installed the ServicePack 3 for Windows XP then it is essential that you re-apply the dvb-fix mentioned on the requirements page.
Bugs in this Release:
If you find any issues or bugs then please report them in the appropriated bugreport forum.
Please make sure that you read and follow the bugreport and support thread guidelines or you might find your thread deleted without further notice to keep the forums clean.

5. Thanks!
Thanks guys! Another great release.

Just a note, Comodo Firewall broke the installation for me. It kept coming up with warnings and stuff, even though i put it in installation mode and set it to treat mediaportal as an installer. Best to just disable before install.

6. Good news
More progress is fantastic, and this is a great piece of software. I have one niggle so far though - you seem to have decided to use the "Language (country)" convention in the installer, and as an Englishman I am disappointed that you've joined Microsoft in the "English is from the US only" camp.

Now I'll get on with the installation and see how everything else goes.

8. Check this before installing!
Hi,

It is recommended to backup your MP-folder. Keep an eye on your Languages folder. This folder will be cleaned out when RC2 installs (and removes RC1). After this, some plugins that reply on the languages folder (like MP-TVseries, Worldmap etc) will cause problems. Errors like "error or missing myHome.xml", missing items in your mainmenu etc will be the result.

So: Make a backup of your MP-folder! If you have problems, you can replace the files you are missing.

Just a friendly notice ;)

Can you update RC1 to RC2 or do we have to do a clean install?

12. Bug?
Very nice release guys.

Before I forget, If you play music with a playlist and have "auto shuffle on playlist load" on with a 5 second buffer, the playlist plays the first 5 seconds of the track that originally "should" have been next then goes off to play another track.

This has happened for a couple of builds now, but I seem to forget to report this.

18. hmm...back to RC1
Hey guys and gals,

Thanks for your hard work. I was pretty exciting about installing RC2. However, I ran into so many problems, I am now reverting back to RC1:

- I cannot get ANY plugin to work (TV-series, TV Gemist...)
- MP crashes when using any other skin than BlueTwo (even BlueTwo Wide causes a crash)
- Very tricky getting my information back in (like all my movie thumbnails and data, which the install program of RC2 so nicely deleted)

I never had much problems with RC1. With RC2 I cannot get anything to work :(

20. My movies
Hi everyone! Very big thanks for the great job you´re doing. I have one question. When I want to watch a movie I press enter on the cover deamon-tools mount the iso/img file but the movie will not start, I must go to the menu on the left side and press "play movie". I wonder how the movie can start direct when I press enter on the cover? It works in RC1. Thank You

23. Chinese / Asian subtitles
Hi:

Just tried RC2, and while the movie now list correct al my movie names with Chinese/Asian characters, my Chinese subtitles are no longer displayed correctly. Is there a way to get this Chinese subtitle going again properly? Thanks.

28. RC2 works nicely.
Just upgraded my HTPC. Fresh install of XP and went to a Core 2 Duo 2.5GHz, (Was running a AMD Sempron) 3Gig RAM, separate HDD for record/time shifting.
Works very nicely. Thanks team.
