About

DVB Plugin for Microsoft Mediacenter 2005, Vista Mediacenter 32bit/64bit and on Microsoft Mediacenter extenders like XBOX360 - giving TeamMediaPortal it's first extender box, some cheaper than buying a HTPC for every tv set in the house.

What does it do?

The plugin gives you the ability to replace the internal Microsoft Mediacenter TvEngine with the TeamMediaPortal TvServer that fully support all three DVB Types (DVB-S,DVB-T,DVB-C). Softcam functionality can also be attrieved by using Agarwal's Directshow MDAPI filter.

Reason Why?

Microsoft has chosen to provide very bad support for DVB TV in Microsoft MediaCenter. Currently they only support DVB-T in Microsoft Mediacenter because they want people to use their upcoming IP-TV solution. Therefore you are in trouble if you want to use DVB-S or DVB-C. Some manufactures has created some speciel drivers to make your DVB-S card look like a DVB-T card so that MCE can use it. DigitalEverywhere has created such a driver for their FireDTV/FloppyDTV product.

from kruisje - Perhaps a stupid question, but mediaportal supports HDTV viewing right? So by using this plugin for MCE you can also watch and record HDTV by using the tvserver engine of mediaportal?

from Mascot28 - Nice!, now I wonder why configuration specify transcoding options even if there should be no reason for standard TS MPEG2-stream? vlc already installed, why provide it?
