Quick overview of the features of MediaPortal

This is a quick overview of the features of MediaPortal. For more detailed information see the complete manual. Media Portal needs to be configured first before you can use it. This can be done by using a set of easy Wizards or with the full setup GUI.

  • To start the Wizards, click the Wizards menu at the top of the MediaPortal window. The Wizard will also be initiated on installation.

  • To start the Setup GUI, click the Options menu at the top of the MediaPortal window.

MediaPortal has eight different sections which can be turned on or off in the configuration program

My TV

  • My TV is the section for watching and recording TV programs and checking TV-guides. Recordings can be done directly as you watch or by using a timer.

My Radio

  • My Radio allows you to tune your hardware receiver to local stations, and even play Internet Radio and Video streams when you don’t have a TV card or radio card inside your computer. Most radio stations nowadays have a internet version of their broadcasts.

My Music

  • My Music is the section for listening to music. It’s an advanced music player which can handle playlists, ID3 tags, automatic shuffle. It also provides a function to handle and automatically retrieve album art. You can also manually place art on selected folders.

My Videos

  • My Videos is the central point for all kinds of video data. It will play movie clips and DVD’s. It will stack multipart movies and you can create playlists. IMDB support is built in to automatically get movie information !!!

My Pictures

  • My Pictures is the image center. This is the place for digital captured images, scanned and downloaded pictures. If Windows can display it, Media Portal can. Thumbnails, zoom and slideshow function are among the features.

My Weather

  • My Weather uses The Weather Channel’s internet server to send local weather, forecast, and radar imagery to MediaPortal.

My News

  • My News allows RSS feeds to be streamed to Media Portal.

Settings GUI

  • Friendly settings can be adjusted here, such as UI/Screen calibration, and slide show speed and transitions
