Digital Everywhere and MediaPortal update
on 08-02-2006

Digital Everywhere now sells light-packages of their products which offcourse are cheaper then the full blown product

The FloppyDTV Light Package is especially suited for people building their own HTPC and who already own a remote controller and MPEG-2 codec

Last week I spend some time chatting with the guys from Digital Everywhere.  We talked about how MediaPortal can make better use of their hardware and they showed me some of their new tricks

Good news this will benefit all MP users which own a FireDTV/FloppyDTV box.

So what can you expect:

H/W pid filtering.

H/W pid filtering is a new feature of the firedtv/floppydtv boxes. This neat feature will limit the bandwidth needed on the firewire bus by only sending the video/audio streams of the current selected tv channel to the PC, instead of all transmitting all the video/audio streams of all the tv channels of the current transponder. This will result in much smoother playback and less stuttering.

Current status is :

1. H/W pid filtering is in cvs and working for me

2. you'll need a new firmware for your FireDTV/FloppyDTV from Digital Everywhere. This firmware is currently under beta-testing and will be released by Digital Everywhere when ready

DisEqc support

The current FireDTV/FloppyDTV DVB-S units can send diseqc commands to 1-4 LNBs. We are currently adding support for this, so soon MP will support diseqc for the FireDTV/FloppyDTV boxes

HDTV support

We currently investigating how to HDTV in MediaPortal, especially with high bitrates like QAM256.

An HTPC having a FloppyDTV installed in one of its 3.5'' internal bays, running MediaPortal and receiving Casema HD broadcasts, WK 2006 matches in particular. Well that's my ultimate dream for year 2006 and Frodo, I'm very pleased to see how close you make me to that dream.
I presume, once QAM256 high bitrate support is sorted out, I won't need to buy Casema's HD compliant receiver, but rather rely on the unprecedented harmony between mediaportal and floppydtv, am I right? Any comments.

Just when i decided to order 2xTwinhan Cab Ci because they are much cheaper.

The Twinhans support QAM256 and are HDTV compatible, so will that mean HDTV support will be available for those at the same time?

Some answers:
1. Casema HDTV
Yes you can use MP together with a firedtv box to watch HDTV on casema.

2. TwinHan HDTV & QAM 256
At this moment i'm unsure if this will work but you have a good chance. The FireDTV boxes are connected to your PC via firewire. To limit the bandwidth we had to use h/w pidfiltering to get QAM 256 to work.
Now the twinhan does not support h/w pidfiltering as far as i now so we have no way to limit the bandwidth. Then again its a PCI card and the PCI bus can handle a much higher bandwidth then firewire. So you might have a good chance that it works

A correction in text:
"especially with high bitrates like QAM256"

QAM is a frequency modulation, not to be confused with bitrates. 256QAM enables high bitrates to be transported over a certain frequency bandwidth.

Just my 2cents...

D-E just released an offical firmware this evening which enables the PID filtering. After a few minutes with the option turned on I get stuttering audio using the Nvidia codecs :( Post a bug report?

The program is quite good with nice features. However, I can not find the driver for the TV card of V-stream Xpert dtv-dvb-t pci which is commercially sold in Australia. I 'd ask if someone can help me
