MediaPortal infected by a Trojan?
on 14-07-2006

We heard that the latest avast! Anti-Virus reports that one file in our installer (belc.dll) is infected by a Trojan Horse (Win32:Agent-AKK [Trj]). Fortunately we can assure you that this is not the case, all our publications are 100% checked for any malicious code before we distribute it. This is just one of those famous "false positives", avast! has to update their code/definitions, there's nothing we can do about it.
Other than being very seductive MP won't harm you or your HTPC.
So as long as you download MediaPortal installers, plugins, whatever from THIS website (rather than any other ways of distribution, Torrent or other networks/servers/websites), we can guarantee everything is and will be clean. Only SourceForge and Download.com are officially mirroring our installers. Also all uploads in our repository get checked before being published.

Update: The latest definitions do not have this problem anymore.

Just wanted to let you all know, that I personally appreciate the frequent news updates on the website over the last few weeks. Gives me a really good impression that development is progressing. I am not sure about the others, but I would love to see small pieces of information being posted from time to time here (like the TV engine 3.0 update).

Congratulations to all of you guys.

I enjoy the news too, but whenever there's a "new" item, ALL the feed is refreshed, at least in the Opera RSS reader, so that I have to re-read-re-kill all previous items again. It's the only feed I have that does this. :(

Love MP, hope to get started on a plugin soon.

I had a false positive with Avast! several months ago using Sage TV. -If I would have known then what I know now ;( -.
I contacted Avast! and reported the issue and Avast! had a new definition update out that fixed the false positive with in a day.
