Skin Poll sabotaged
Written by DMAN, on 18-07-2006

Unfortunately someone who has been traced back to the Austrian School Network decided to create close to 50 forum accounts and sabotaged our 4:3 skin poll.

This is very dissapointing and we are taking the matter as far as we can go.

So as a result the poll has been suspended and more than likely will not continue. I'll make a decision come Friday with what we are going to do.

This is really a shame. When will people realize they can get more credibility by picking something on the feature request list and programming it than doing something stupid and destructive like this?

Too bad people don't seem to understand that this is the way to discourage the people who working so hard (only for ourselves!) to make MediaPortal as good as it can. And all for free.
I pity the pepole who sabotaged this poll.

Programmers: keep up the good work! Thanks for all the efforts.

Btw: I never saw the 3DMP-skin before but: wow, it's amazing! MCE is fine too...!

What a shame! I was really loving this poll because I think this is the good way to get people involved and make MediaPortal better and better. As far as i can see the result was a head to head with BlueTwo and 3DMP so I hope you can isolate the false votes and choose the skin by the regular votes.

I don't think this incident should change anything in the future voting process.

It was a good start. If you stop now, a few immature a**holes will "win".

This is very poor form :) Out of interest, which skin was he or she voting for?

I agree that we shouldn't stop the voting process...

This person obviously had more time than sence!

I agree the poll should go on. You shouldn't let one bad person stop the project from reaching the goals it sets up. Just block the ip or subnet, report it and move on with the poll.

Don't let them win by closing the voting. Let's ignore this persons votes and keep the default skin vote open for us, the serious MP fans.

If the votes came from the Austrian School Network, what discounts the possiblily that 50 kids, each creating their own account, could simply be using the same shared computer or network? Just curious. :)

not really, 50 school kids in a row within minutes using fake nicks, the same spam-mail sender and all voting for b2 isnt that belivable ;)
We have only one guy using that IP so were pretty sure to know who it was and keep an eye on him. No ban this time cause theres always a small risk of beeing wrong.

On some forum's (fora?) a new member has to wait for 5 days before being allowed to post anything. Maybe something like that would help? It also helps with the amount of spam.
