Updater for MediaPortal 0.2.0.4
on 11-08-2006

This update includes the new "scrobbling" features to automatically fill your playlist with songs you would like!

You will also notice that MediaPortal consumes less CPU power now. Especially users suffering from > 50% system load while listening to music should see a significant drop now.

This update is for all 0.2 installations without svn files.

Update instructions are here.

Grab the update!

Click on 'read more' to see the list of changes.

If you've not already heard of "scrobbling" - here a short description:

  1. For using advanced features activate the "audioscrobbler plugin"
  2. Sign up at last.fm (free - not even an email required)
  3. Fire up MediaPortal and add one song which reflects your current mood to the playlist (e.g. by pressing "p" / play on it)
  4. If you haven't set your MP to switch to playlist on "play" navigate there
  5. Enable "Scrobble" and wait a few seconds to see your playlist filled

After 10 seconds MP will search for similar Artist's tracks on each track now. If you've got your profile at last.fm filled after some weeks you might try the "neighbour mode". It will add tracks to your playlist which people that share your music taste have heard.

There will be other modes like "tags" soon allowing to specify tags like "80's", "dance music" "metal" to consider songs worth adding to your playlist.

Not only you contribute to developing MP but you also provide those upgrades that give up new features without having to figh with the svn hell!! :-)

Thank you so much for the frequent upgrades! It's great to be able to keep up with the MP's state-of-the-art without the uncertainty of grabbing a random SVN.

Apparently the lower CPU load also made the transitions in My Pictures smooth while playing music. Great, this has been a pain the @ss for so long!

Thank you for the update. I, like everyone else is very happy at the new intermediate patches that are coming out between major releases.

I find locating these updates really confusing. Hyporlinks that go in circles and the update is not named with a 04 in it. So far I have managed to reinstall the 1.0.0.3 update twice :) Anyone got a link to the 1.0.04 (a direct download link on homepage or a less confusing one is a must) - cheers

OK i finally got it. I had to uninstall MP, reinstall 0.2 then run the updater.

Can it not upgrade from 2.0.0.3 -> 2.0.0.4. It takes forever to reconfigure it, recsan media etc, toally impractical. Needs an updater that migrates settings with minimal change or its just not worth the time.

The link is always the same, thats absoultely easy to find. No circles or whatever. The old file is overwritten so its impossible to grab the old 0.3 when 0.4 is out.

Theres no need to reconfigure or reinstall anything. .4 on .3 works perfectly here.

Couldn't get audioscrobbler plug to appear or work in main app. set it up in MP Setup, and it communicated with lastfm to get list of recent songs played but nothing in app.

PS .04 appeared to install over .03 but still said .03 when run. I had to do clean 2.02.00 then update to .04 for it to work.

No more MCE skin? What skins still remain? What skins are people using?

Great way of installing updates whithout the risk of a major WAF drop as a result that the CVS updates sometimes give you.

Keep up the good work, the effort is appreciated every day..

@Peter - sorry no, until now noone volunteered for mainting the mce skin :-(

As MP might crash when it tries to access stuff which isn't supported by the skin I've decided to drop it in favour for stability - sorry.. In many cases it might work to xcopy B2's newer xml files to mce to get it to work.

I too am having a hard time finding the updates. Are the patches in SVN? I agree with the other guy, it goes in circles. I figured out what it is. That Windows Explorer like window that contains the update in a folder is WAY confusing, i thought it was a screenshot of a downloaded file. That has to go, just put a link.
