Xface new skin for mediaportal
Written by Harley, on 27-09-2007

Xface Skin version 1.3 ready for download !

This new skin is made for mediaportal 0.2.3.0 RC2 and latest svn builds.

It supports all new stuff of skinengine and use a complete different layout.

As you can see in the screenshots, the skin use coverviews with 3D style and real reflektions. The buttons working with actionmenues, so they come in to the screen only if they will be used. So we have more space for displaying the views. The Listviews are have also a big selected thumbview.

I have made the fonts bigger and also the osd stuff for better legibility.

The skin use a real flyarroundmenue in basichomescreen with submenues......

..but best will be, you will let it run self ;)

Hope you all have fun with it !

Greetings  Harley :)

..more Screenshots and Download you will find here.

This skin looks really great, but I am asking myself why it is mentioned on the front page?
Is this a new standard skin shipped with MediaPortal?

It freezes on RC2 with latest snapshot where BlueTwo runs fine.

Overscan area has not been considered while creating this skin so date, clock and other important stuff gets cut.

Many useful space on screen gets wasted with useless stuff.

Not good!

17. Nice!
This has got mad potential! Revision is my personal favorite but I have to say that with some polish on the coding, this could make the top of my list. Excellent work!

18. Not living up to its hype
Well, I tried it.. Screenshots looked kinda interesting.. Used it for few hours and switched back to the best skin I used so far - SpinSafe Revolve which is much-much nicer, more professional, usable and thought out. Xface has pretty basic functionality, pretty basic images and icons - nothing that would make it worth using.. Plus I wasn't able to access permanent top bar using remote from some of the screens.. I use MediaPortal on my HTPC and see no reason in even trying anything that requires a mouse.. So, 3+ out of 10... Hope this is not a standard skin for the next release..

19. Gaining Notariety
Both eHomeUpgrade and Missing Remote have stories based on the XFace skin today, this is more outside news coverage than I've seen in six months besides the "rage" on TGB over the web interface! lol Good job on the skin, it's yet another masterpiece in the making.

21. fantastic!!
It's the best skin i've had yet!! Only missing the timeline-bar (tv) at the top of the screen and stepskipping is unreadable with black colors on the background.

23. Doesn't work properly
I tried it last night and only got flat boxes for the video thumbnails (no cool 3D effect)... I even went to the extent of reinstalling MP and the skin but it's still not working.

28. Wow! We love it!
Wow! Just pure and awsome skin! This is the bomb. I just wonder what the "tv series" is under home-screen videos? My default screen for a couple of weeks now and no problem at all. Thanks for making my movie-wathing time more exciting.

31. I must be missing something.
Latest install of MediaPortal straight from this site, switch to this skin which is apparently brand new.

First thing is a red box saying the skin is outdated.

Second is media portal bogging like hell. Third is mediaportal's web link to 'Recommended HW' spewing a browserful of binary. Fourth is no DVDs showing up in mediaportal. Fifth is escape not working to get back to the menu; sixth is the popup dialog going "  playing, stop?", seventh is mediaportal crashing hard.

Pentium M 2ghz, 1gb, 100gb, clean XP pro. Color me unimpressed.

39. Look nice, but keeps freezing up
I really like the looks, but I seemed to have problem getting it to work properly for some reason. I uninstalled MP V0.2.2.0 and installed V0.2.3.0 RC3 and XFace. The MP will start up fine and I was able to navigate to various functions (e.g., MyMusic, MyVideo, etc.). Once I am in a specific function, the GUI will freeze up. I had to terminate the MP by going thru the Task Manager. I can operate MP just fine with the standard Blue Wide skin.

Does anyone have similar issue? How did you resolve the problem?

40. Great work! Forget the complaints
I have tried many skins and always got back to Blue Two Wide because no one was as consistent, complete or (for me) bug free... until this one. In fact, I shouldn't say "Great work", I should say "Incredible work". It is utterly beautiful and, at the same time, more convenient than Blue Two Wide.

Hat off!

41. looks great but works slow
I really love the way it looks, but the UI seems to work a bit slow, anyway , not like the original skin which works smoothly.

42. Mouse controls for xface
Hi,

I noticed some problems with mouse control of the xface skin. For instance when activating "add special mouse controls" in the MediaPortal general setup, the added mouse controls interfere badly with the epg-guide menu of xface.
Further, the mouse-control-arrows below the epg-guide area (to scroll further down) sometimes do not work when clicked with the mouse.
Further, I seem to get no mini-epg information about a program anymore (the small summary text that is usually written below the small TV window and in the schedule-menue). But maybe this is not the fault of xface :)

43. Background image required for display.
Great job.

Only thing I've found is that the OSD for the zoom level (pan & scan, zoom, stretch, etc) does not have a background and is very difficult to read. Apart from that it's fantastic.

Thanks
