Purpose

  • Category: Videos
  • Type of Change:  Feature

1.3.0 alpha introduces the second phase of a major rework of using Videos in MediaPortal. This page describes how to configure all the great new features.

See: Videos for a description of how the new features look and work in the GUI.

General Tab

  • Keep DVD and BluRay folders together -In Videos Shares view folders which contain DVD or BluRay ripped disc will be grouped and sorted separately after normal folders
  • Played time percentage - Default 95%
    • Set played percentage from total video file duration when it will be set as "watched"

Add/Edit Folder

Selecting Add in the folders dialog will present you with this window.

Setup video thumb creation for folder

When video thumb creation is globally set, thumbs will be created in every defined shared folder and this setting helps you to define thumb creation on folder level (allow or disallow thumb creation on defined folder).

Dedicated movie folder

Check this option if defined folder contains video files in their own subfolders (every video file/movie is in it own directory).

Do not check this option if subfolders contain more than one video file/movie.

Video Database - Settings

When you first open the Video Database you will see the Settings tab. There are several things to do on this screen.

Select IMDB Databases

  • New databases:
    • IMDB with AKA V1.3.x (English) - Special edition with new features only for MP 1.3.x
    • IMDB with OFDB (German)
    • IMDB with OFDB V1.3.x (German) - Special edition with new features only for MP 1.3.x

      Sort title

  • Use "Sort title"
    • Sort title is alternative movie title which can be used for sorting movies in MediaPortal for movie sequels which titles sort alphabetically are not in order (like Alien movies)
    • Checking this options MediaPortal will use user defined sort title for sorting instead movie title
    • Sort title can be changed in Movie editor in configuration

      Using internal nfo scraper

  • Use this options if you want to prevent MediaPortal for using Internet based scraper
  • Movie scraping will be based on existing "nfo" file related to video file in configuration
  • If video file do not have corresponding "nfo" file, MP Internet scraper will be used in GUI
  • Editing and save movie data in movie editor will create new nfo file (overwrite old one).

Do not use database (GUI behavior for nfo files)

  • This option will prevent any interaction (import/refresh) with video database for not scanned video nfo files in GUI with F3 (IMDB) option in share view (you want to see video info for video files but you don't want to use MP videodatabase to store those data )
  • Movie info screen will show movie data from nfo file but actors feature and all refresh movie options will not work
  • In database views those video files without database entries will not be visible

Movie Info before Play

Use this option if you want to see movie info before play (for instant play override this setting with Play button)

  • Use in share view - activate this setting also in share (folders) view

    Update internal grabbers

    [1.3.0 beta]
  • Internal grabber purpose is to fetch covers, fanart, actors info and their movies from the Internet
  • Because of constant changes of grabbed/scraped web pages, grabbers can fail and fetching process can result with wrong or no data at all. If you experience problems like that, try first to update internal grabber from Configuration or from MyVideos.

Scan

Select Folders to Scan for Movie Titles

Select the Scan checkbox for the folders where movies are stored.

Prefer Video File Name for Movie Search

Every movie in its own folder (dedicated movie folder)

The sub option Prefer video filename for movie search can be used if your video filenames use the IMDb movie ID pattern ie.

tt1234567

(the pattern needs all 7 numbers and a

tt

prefix for a 100% match). The grabber will use this name to search for movies with 100% accuracy if the IMDb script is used, but the movie name will be taken from the folder. This option does NOT work for movies with a DVD folder structure (i.e. DVD backups).

Actors List Fetch Size

Set actors list size:

  • Short (default)
  • Long

Short list will fetch max 15 actors from the main IMDb movie page while long list will fetch all available actors for the movie.

Note: This will not fetch actors info, only Name and Role. Actors details can be fetched in Actors details tab or directly in the MediaPortal GUI. Also, this option and internal actors fetch routine will have effect only if movie info data contains an IMDb movie ID (tt1234567).

Editor

Title

New database fields:

  • Studio
  • Language
  • Country
  • Sort title
*Note:  *You must update grabber scripts and choose the IMDB_MP 1.3x or IMDB with OFDB grabber on the Settings tab to fetch data for many of the new fields, e.g. Studio, Language, Country.

    Actors

  • Select the title of the movie you wish to edit. On the right hand side of the screen you should a list of actors that have been assigned to the movie.

    How to create actor

  • Add
    • If the actor you wish to add to the movie is not listed in the left or right column, then type the name, role and IMDBid of actor in the text box above the Add and Remove Buttons. When finished typing, click Add
    • Actor IMDBid is not mandatory but will be of great use later in MP GUI for handling actors

      Actor Details

      New database fields:

  • Date of death
  • Place of death

    Genres

  • Genre thumb - add thumb image for selected genre which will be used in Genres view in MP GUI.

User groups This new option gives you possibility to group movies in one single group and later they can be viewed in User Groups view (similar view as Title view but your grouped movies will be in on top in group folder).

  • Add new user group
    • To add new group fill text box above "Add - Remove" buttons and press Add button.
  • Assign user group to a movie
    • Select group from "Available groups" box and click  ">>" button to link movie to a group
    • Note: One movie can be linked to more than one group
  • Group thumb
    • Add thumb for selected group (one in Available Groups box) which will be used in User Groups view as thumb for that group
    • Note:  If no thumb is defined, MP will use random movie cover from one of the movie inside group as thumb.

      User groups miscellaneous settings

  • User group description - you can add your own description for every group which will be visible on group select in User Group view in MyVideos

    User groups rules

Here you can define special rules for user groups which will automate linking of movies to user group. This rule can be executed here in configuration and also will be used later in movies scan process.

    How Groups work?
It's based on user defined SQL script which will be triggered on movie scan or executed manually and will try to link movies in a group according to rules defined in SQL script.
    Building Group Rule (SQL syntax)
  1. Select User Group from Group drop-box
  2. Select one of the defined types
    1. Media info (to filter by movie video file specifications ie: SD/HD, codec, channels...)
    2. Movie info (to filter by Movie title or Director or some other database fields related to movie)
    3. Actor (to filter by actor name)
    4. Folder (to filter by folder)
  3. Select Field. According to selected type here you can choose some predefined filters (ie.: for MovieInfo type you can choose Movie title or director)
  4. Select Operand - logic operator for selected field
    1. Equals (=)
    2. NotEquals (<>)
    3. Contains
    4. StartsWith
    5. EndsWith
  5. Select predefined value. You can also manually enter value if predefined value is not what you want
  6. Click "Generate rule syntax). SQL syntax will be generated.
  7. Click "Check rule" to validate rule.
  8. Click "Run and save rule" and you new rule will be executed on all movies in your collection. If some of the movies falls into your new rule, they will be automatically assign to group.
Example: if you want to create group for your Harry Potter movies,
  • Create group ie.: Harry Potter movies,
  • select that group,
  • select type "Movie info",
  • select field "strTitle",
  • select operand "Contains" and add manually value "Harry Potter".
Later, if you don't have all Harry Potters movies and you add missing ones from Configuration or MP GUI, they will be automatically assigned to Harry Potter group.

    Tools

Use the new Tools sections  to upgrade of your old movie covers to the new naming rule for Media Portal 1.2.0 and above so you don’t need to re-scan new covers. Your old covers will not be visible in MediaPortal until you upgrade by using the Upgrade button.

    Import/ Export nfo files

  • Primary goal for this option is to backup your movie details information in case of database disaster/switching hard disks or simply reinstall MP or Windows from scratch.
  • To export your data just click "Export". All movies data including covers, fanart and actors data (only name and role) will be exported to movie video file location. Movie description file will be named as video file name with extension "nfo". All images will be in separate files and their names depend on the video file name and how many fanart images you have per movie.
  • To import your nfo files and images click "Import" button, select folder (make sure you have already defined that folder in folder setup). You can also select disk or root folder which contains your movies subfolders or shared folders so you can import all in one move just remember to define them before.
    • Note: Nfo file with images can be also imported in MP GUI in folders (share) view on selected folder with option "Scan using nfo file" (hybrid scan based on nfo file and Internet movie scraper in case of refresh movie data in Movie info screen) or, if "Use internal nfo scraper only" option is checked, everything related to movies scan/refresh will be based on "nfo" files.

<outline>A retired mobster goes on a revenge spree after being left for dead with 22 bullets in his body by his former childhood friend.</outline>
<plot>Charly Mattei has turned a new leaf on his past as an outlaw. For the past three years he's been living a comfortable life and devoting himself to his wife and two kids. However, one winter morning, he's left for dead in the underground parking garage of Marseille's Old Port with 22 bullets in his body. Against all odds, he will not die.</plot>
<review>Based loosely on a true story premise where a French gangster got pumped with lead and left for dead but miraculously survived the hit, 22 Bullets is a revenge flick worthy of its Europa Corp pedigree so you'll know just what to expect - a stylish thriller filled with anti-heroes, and plenty of gratuitous violence with the charismatic Jean Reno in the role of an avenging angel out to settle scores when the perpetrators just wouldn't leave him alone in his retired life.As the adage goes, one can never quite leave the gangland, and Reno's Charly Mattei, a once feared mobster in Marseille who signalled his retirement through the selling of his businesses to childhood friend Tony Zacchia (Kad Merad in a serious role), it's all about having a reputation that's still influential, and in order for friends to want to move along with their plans against his moral tones of zero involvement in drugs, the only way is to launch a pre- emptive strike to take Mattei out of the equation, only for the group of gunmen to fail in their quest and Mattei's reputation grows to become L'Immortel for obvious reasons.Like the Godfather series, one may want to get out from one's violent past, but circumstances pull one right back into the thick of the action. For Mattei, it's almost giving the other cheek up for another slap when the mob goes after him in the hospital, but the last straw that broke the camel's back came from the targeting of his remaining loyal soldiers, and thus the avenging angel is born, nevermind if one of his arm is now paralyzed. It's a story of honour amongst thieves, how some hoodlums fail to pay heed to the established rules of engagement of never crossing the line to hurt women and children, and essentially family members in their violent public spat. As for the cops led by Marie Goldman (Marina Fois), she's eager to look for an opening to avenge her husband's killing, yet bounded by duty to know that she has to keep personal and business separate. What more, it's to the police's advantage that the mob is killing one another, and thus warned to keep an arm's length at the explosive gangland war. In a strange parallel between those finding on opposite sides of the fence, it's all about doing a job, and then going home to family at the end of the day.Directed by Richard Berry who also had a small role in the film, 22 Bullets is unflinching in its violence, and the mowing down of Charly Mattei early in the film somehow is reminiscent of other massacres such as that of Sonny Corleone in Francis Ford Coppola's The Godfather, or Murphy in Paul Verhoeven's Robocop. Don't expect Mattei to be dishing out revenge with creativity though, as his is a simple dispatch involving a signature one shot to the head, and one to the heart, two critical areas to ensure the grim reaper comes calling. There are the occasional lapses into monologues, although it does play up the fear factor here when he carries out the threat of striking when his enemies least expect him to.Jean Reno as usual excels in this role, and you'll find yourself rooting for his character despite his flaws and what his character actually was in the past. As Zacchia puts it succinctly, a wrong is a wrong no matter what layer of morality gets draped over it. Kad Merad's Zacchia too puts in a moment of brilliance when he delivered a hypocritical speech about the value of close friendships, while his demeanour behind closed doors is anything but, lying to the masses without a flinch.22 Bullets is a straightforward thriller that worked without too much surprises, but its slick delivery more than makes up for any of its shortcomings.</review>
