Using DVD Profiler with My Films - setup, field mapping, and special considerations.

Introduction

DVD Profiler is designed primarily for cataloging your collection of physical DVDs. However, My Films allows you to store a movie filename in the Notes field, and thus play movies such as ripped image files on your hard disk, as well as DVDs.

Note: Export to XML for more than 50 DVDs is only supported in the registered (unlimited) version of DVD Profiler.

Setup

DVD Profiler

Export your DVD Profiler catalog to an XML file, default is:

  • My Documents\DVD Profiler\Databases\Default\Collection.xml

MyFilms

Use the Setup Wizard:

  • Catalog type - DVD Profiler
  • Catalog XML - select the XML file you exported from DVD Profiler (see above)

The wizard presets most settings for you, however you should verify them, especially the paths set for displaying images in Artwork Setup.

DVD Profiler Options

You may select special options for DVD Profiler on the External Catalogs Tab in MyFilms Setup:

Notes Field contains only Movie Filename - this will enable you to play files from your hard disk in My Films.  However, you can enter only one filename and no other data in the Notes field. If you have multi part or stacked files, My Films will auto-detect them and allow you to play or select them.

Tags - merge them with the Category Field - thus in Category view you will see all your tags listed as well as genres/categories.  Or, you may merge tags to either the Description or Comments field the same as any other External Catalog.

Note:  the previous option for using Sort Titles has been removed.  Sort Titles are now mapped to Formatted Title

Field Mapping

Fields are listed by the field name in the XML, sort order is the order in the AMC XML. Items in red are not currently displayed, but could be. DVD Profiler does not support media info and file related fields like file size.
