Question

Can I use my existing fanart with My Films?

Background

Fanart images in My Films are stored in a separate folder for each movie, wherever you chose to store your fanart in Artwork Setup.

Answer

Yes, there are a couple of ways you can use existing fanart:

  1. Define the path to your existing fanart images in Artwork Setup
In this case My Films will only display a single fanart image, unless you store multiple fanart images in a sub folder using the movie title (see
    ...\Team MediaPortal\MediaPortal\thumbs\MyFilms\Fanart
    for the correct folder naming)
  2. Add your existing fanart images to My Films fanart folders

With the second option, you can use any fanart you have already, regardless of the file name. However, if you download fanart within My Films, from TMDb (The Movie Database), it may grab the same fanart image again because it won't recognize the stored filename.  But you can always just delete the duplicates.

My Films Fanart manager allows you to download new fanart images, delete fanart, or even create your own fanart from the movie.

Note: As of v 6.0.0 you can choose how many fanart images MyFilms downloads, as well as the minimum/maximum resolution, when importing/adding movies to your database. See AMC Updater > Database Fields tab under Fanart Handling.

You may also manually add custom fanart images for views and groups, although MyFilms will automatically display random fanart from the movies in the group or view. See Fanart Setup for details.
