Question

I am using another catalog type, like DVD Profiler. How can I get the same update features and integration as supported by AMC in My Films?

Answer

My Films creates a “cache catalog file” in AMC XML format for internal use that is located in the same directory where you exported your catalog to an XML file. Example: for DVD Profiler, which normally exports to

Collection.xml

, My Films creates

Collection_tmp.xml

in AMC format.

  1. Copy thet “tmp” file to a name of your selection in the same folder – e.g. “MyAMCcatalog.xml”
  2. Run the Setup Wizard:
    1. Choose Catalog type=Ant Movie Catalog Xtended (V4.1),
    2. Choose Existing catalog and select the file from  thte first step #1 above.

You can use all feature of MyFilms, including updating your catalog, importing new films, etc..

Note: Your changes won't reflect in your former external catalog e.g. in DVD Profiler  – and changes you export from DVD Profiler won't be imported into this file.

You may also use the same method to actually switch to using AMC catalog as your movie catalog program if you wish.  In this case, you may choose to install AMC, and copy the file as created above to the AMC folder, such as

My Documents\Ant Movie Catalog

. You can open the file and begin using it right away. Then all your updates will reflect in both My Films and AMC. However, AMC does not provide as many fields as some external catalogs so you may miss some data, especially fields not exported by your movie catalog, or mapped to MyFilms..
