Overview
MediaPortal 2 is able to match your files correctly by reading the tags of mkv files.
This allows unique identification without any user interaction and completely independent from any file or folder structure.

General infos about Matroska & tags
The official website of Matroska is http://matroska.org/. Information about the specification of tags are also available: http://matroska.org/technical/specs/...ing/index.html
For muxing media files like avi, mp4, etc. into a mkv it is suggested to use MkvToolnix. While muxing you can include a xml tag file and define almost every property like default streams (video/audio/subtitle), forced streams (subtitle) and stream languages.
For batch scripting of a whole collection of media files you also can use Lehmden's Video2Mkv.
For creating xml tag files or tag existing mkv files you can use MkvTagger (work in progress).
