Overview
Let your HTPC control the remote socket receiver.
Requirements
Adding an extra remote just to control your lights is unnecessary. It would be much better to let your HTPC control the remote socket receiver. There's several different devices that can send and receive RF signals.
Tellstick
Tellstick is a USB/ethernet radio frequency transmitter manufactured by Telldus. TellStick transmits signals at 433.92 MHz that turns on/off electricity on electronics and lights connected to wall-plug socket receivers. Tellstick Duo can also receive signals from other devices, i.e. weather stations and remote controls.
Tellstick connects to the HTPC's USB port or an Ethernet port on your router and after installing the device driver you can control your lights from the TelldusCenter software or the notification area. It also has a scheduler software and possibility to connect to Telldus Live! so that you can turn your lights on and off when away for vacation.
RFXCOM
RFXtrx433 sends and receives RF signals and is connected by USB to the computer. To use the RFXtrx in EventGhost you need to install the plugin.
KlikAanKlikUit
Light Manager Mini sends RF signals and also receives IR signals.
