Details
MediaPortal 2 is using one central database which is managed by the MP2-Server. All MP2-Clients will connect to and retrieve content from the MP2-Server.

SQLite database
Plugin name: SQLiteDatabase
By default MediaPortal 2 is using SQLite as a database backend, which does not require any additional software installations. SQLite is really fast, has no limits for database size and it is easy to maintain. That's why it is the default database for MediaPortal 2. You are also able to open and view these databases manually with software like SQLiteExpertPersonal or DB Browser for SQLite or similar.
MySQL database
Plugin name: MySQLDatabase
If you already have a MySQL installation you also can use it with MediaPortal 2. This plugin is outdated and not guaranteed to be working any longer.
More information about it, how to install and configure it can be found in forum.
