Overview

Setup how the client interacts with the TV-Server, even if you install TV-Server and MediaPortal on the same system (single-seat setup).

Client Settings

You must setup the TV-Server before any client (even the same PC) can connect to it. For first time setup, see the TV Setup Guide.

Then you can setup how each client on your network, or even the same PC, connects to your TV-Server to watch, pause and record TV.

Hostname

Tip If you intend to create a network (multi-seat) setup where the clients and server sleep or hibernate when they're not in use then it is highly recommended to use a static IP address for the TV Server. Using a dynamic IP address could result in database and TV-Server problems when the TV-Server wakes from sleep.

This is the name or IP address of the TV-Server that the client should connect to.

Test connection

This button can be used to test the connection with the TV Service. Enter the Hostname of the TV-Server and click the button to check your connection. If you leave the Hostname empty, MediaPortal will assume a single-seat setting and fill in the name of your local host.

Once the connection is successful, you'll see the Hostname field turn green and you will receive a popup stating the connection to the TV-Server is successful.

If the connection fails, you will receive a popup stating the connection to the TV-Server failed and the Hostname field will turn red.

Also when closing the Configuration window with OK the Hostname will be verified (if it has been changed). If the Hostname field contains a valid TV Server hostname, it is saved and the database connection used by the MediaPortal TV and Radio section to get EPG data from the TV Server's database is updated.
If the Hostname field contains an invalid value, you will receive a popup offering to review the hostname. If you click Yes, you can continue to edit the configuration. If you click No, the Configuration window will close without saving the hostname but all other changes will be saved.

Wake-On-Lan

If your TV-Server is installed on a different computer than your MediaPortal client, you may use this option to let the client wake up the server when it needs to be accessed.

Wake up TV Server as needed

Select this option to enable Wake-On-Lan.

WOL timeout

Enter the amount of seconds that MediaPortal should wait for the server so start up.

Auto-configure server MAC Address

MediaPortal will try to automatically configure the MAC address of the server.

MAC Address

It is possible to manually enter the server's MAC address if MediaPortal cannot successfully retrieve it automatically.

To enter a MAC address, you first need to uncheck Auto-configure server MAC address. Open a Command Prompt on the TV-Server and type

ipconfig -all

to list all network adapters and MAC addresses of the server.
