RetroPad

Libretro maps user input to an abstraction of a controller called the RetroPad. Using this abstraction it is possible to create a single controller mapping that will work across multiple emulators.

The available inputs of the RetroPad are broadly similar to the inputs on a PlayStation Dual Shock controller or Xbox 360 controller. Note that the main button layout uses the positions as they were on the SNES controller, this means that the A, B and X, Y positions are inverted relative to the Xbox 360 controller.

This image shows how a RetroPad maps on to an Xbox 360 controller. (The RGUI button is currently unsupported in the Emulators plugin).

The plugin should support most controllers via the XInput and HID interfaces. Keyboard input is also supported but may conflict with MediaPortal's input handling. XInput controllers may show up twice as they are usually HID devices as well. It is recommended to use the XInput interface in this case as it has support for force feedback together with being better tested/more stable.

Note that the use of multiple HID controllers is currently untested. Removing and reinserting controllers during game play or hot plugging controllers may not currently work correctly.

Mapping Controllers

To map a physical controller to the RetroPad select Map input devices _under _Settings -> Plugins -> Emulators -> Libretro.

1. Ensure that your controller is connected then select the player that you want to map.

2. Choose the device that you want to map.

3. Select the RetroPad input that you want to map to the device. When prompted, press an input on the device to map it. Repeat for each input.

XInput devices will initially be mapped using the recommended configuration. HID devices currently need to be manually mapped.

4. The mapping will be automatically saved when pressing back/exiting the screen.
