Overview
All screens showing content related to media Items are called Media Screen. This can be videos, audio files, games, ... The arrangement of Media Screens depends on the View Mode
Slide Menu
The Slide Menu is in normal condition invisible, just the arrow indicates, where it is located and in which direction it will slide out (see screen shots).
- To open the Slide Menu navigate in the opposite direction of the arrow or press the context menu key (keyboard) or info/menu button (remote). With mouse controls move the mouse the curser to the screen side of the arrow, so the menu slides out.
- To close it navigate in arrow direction or perform the same actions as above. With mouse controls move the mouse the curser away from the screen side of the arrow, so the menu slides in.
In list and grid views the slide menu is located left-sided, in cover view it is located at the bottom.

The content of the menu depends on the screen, in media screens it is usually:
Folder view / media library
Toggles between folder view and media library view:
- The Folder View offers the structured view as media items are placed in Windows Explorer. The functionality is very limited.
- The Library View offers the full potential of MediaPortal 2, offering all media information and fanart, sorting, filtering, ... The folder structure in Windows Explorer is not considered, but the metadata from online sources or your nfo files, if locally tagged.

Filter
Filters the media items depending on media type for several properties.
The filter will be remembered for the current view until you change it. This is also valid for sub filter,means if you filter for another property in an already filtered view.
Examples:
- To have the structure series → seasons → episodes you need to set the filter to series in the series library, then set another filter for seasons.
- To have the structure albums → tracks you need to set the filter to album in the audio view.
- To have the structure movie collections → movies you need to set the filter to collection in the movie library.
Sorting
Sorts the media items ascending to the selected sorting property.
View Mode
MediaPortal2 offers different View Modes, that can be comfortably selected for every screen and they are also remembered when entering the screen again. To access the view mode dialoge just go to the slide menu of the screen and select "View Mode".
Changes in the settings can be pre-viewed live in the background!
Following settings are possible:
- View Mode (List, Grid, Cover)
- View Size
- List: Small (no poster), Medium (small poster), Large (large poster)
- Grid: Poster, Thumbnail, Banner
- Cover
- Full Details can be hidden and shown for list, grid and cover views
- When hidden for large lists, additional infos are shown inside the focus area
- When hidden for grid, additional infos are shown in the bottom (as for home screen)
- Watched flags can be set for every screen individually

Search
Search for media items, the content area updates live while you are typing in the search field. The search filter is "contains", means the media item name does not need to start with the search string.
Add to playlist
Add items to a playlist to play them chronologically.
Eject optical disk
In case an optical drive is present it ekects the disc. This is helpful for for CD drives without a physical eject button.
Playlists
Play or delete an existing playlist.
Content area
The Content Area is displaying the list of media items or further content.
Play item
Select a media item to start playback. In case already another media item is playing, a dialoge appears:
- Play video/image item : Stops the current playback and plays the selected item
- Enqueue video/image item : Plays the selected item after current playback is finished
- Play video/image item in PiP (Picture in Picture) mode (→ Media Playback)
Media item actions
Focus a media item and press the menu button / info button / right mouse to open a context menu.
Media information
Opens the info screen for the focused media item.
Set played / Set unplayed
Sets the status to played/unplayed. Menu item depends on the current played state.
Subtitle search
Search for subtitles for the focused media item.
Refresh
Looks for modified offilne data and imports them in case existing. This option is helpful in case you exchanged descriptions or fanart locally.
Reimport
A media item was wrongly imported? No problem, Reimport allows you to find the correct info for the focused media item. You can manually live search by name name or ID. By default the current media item name is searched (Auto match)
Note: requires an internet connection and at least one online scrapper selected in media library settings.
Delete from storage
Deleted the focued media item. The media item can be not restored! The function can be deactivated for certain user accounts in case user profils are activated. → Users
Details Area
The Details Area shows additional information for the focused media item. The details location in the screen depends on the view mode and can be also hidden to use the full space only for media items. The shown information are depending on the media type and availability.
