Team MediaPortal wants your help!

For quite some time we are working on MediaPortal 1.1.0 and if you take a look at our roadmaps, then you will see that we have already achieved a lot for this big release.

But there are still a lot of open tasks which we want to have included in the 1.1.0 release.

Unfortunately, we do not have the required manpower to get all of them done in time.

This is why we want to ask the developers among our community for help.

As you might already know, we now have a dedicated sub-forum for submitting patches.
This makes the whole process a lot easier, because in contrast to the patch section on SourceForge, this allows us to directly communicate with the developer who submitted the patch.

So how should that work?

1. Find a task to work on
Take a look at our roadmaps if you find a task which you want to give a try.

You see issues which are targeted to the "1.1.0 release" and to "future release".
You are not limited to the tasks which are set to 1.1.0. You can also pick one which is targeted to "future release".
If you get it done in time, then it will be part of the 1.1.0 release.

2. Before you get to work

Please have a look at our Patch Guideline, especially the Coding Standards before you start to work on a task.

Also always base your work on the latest available svn.

As soon as you start to work on a task, you should start a work in progress thread inside the submit patch forum.
There you can also discuss questions with the team, and ultimately submit the final patch.
This work in progress thread will also help to avoid that more than one developer will work on the same issue.
But you might even be able to team up with other developers to get one of the bigger changes done.

3. When you are done

We require that all patches are submitted as unified diff (*.patch file).

Creating a .patch file is fairly easy if you follow our guide.

................................

Our release target for 1.1.0 RC1 is Friday the 21th August 2009.
4 weeks before that date, a featurefreeze will begin.

This means that the deadline for submitted patches, which should be included in the 1.1.0 release, is the 24th July 2009.

................................

We hope that many developers among our community will use this opportunity to contribute to MediaPortal. Smile

Note: Developers which submit high quality patches, usually receive an invite to join the team quite soon.

About The Project

The vision of the MediaPortal project is to create a free open source media centre application, which supports all advanced media centre functions, and is accessible to all Windows users.

In reaching this goal we are working every day to make sure our software is one of the best.

Support MediaPortal!

The team works very hard to make sure the community is running the best HTPC-software. We give away MediaPortal for free but hosting and software is not for us.

Care to support our work with a few bucks? We'd really appreciate it!
