NSIS installer for nightly TV-Server builds

Since MediaPortal switched to NSIS (Nullsoft Scriptable Install System) with  version 0.2.3.0 RC3 we are quite happy with it. Smile

On Friday, the 21. March we will start to use NSIS for the untested svn builds of the MediaPortal TV-Server as well.

The benefits of NSIS are:
  • The setup.exe from NSIS is about 10 MB smaller then the MSI version
  • Only one setup.exe for TV-Server and TV-Client-Plugin
  • MediaPortal's installation path is detected automatically
  • Existing installations can be "updated" automatically. No need to manually uninstall the old versions first.

Attention!
You have to uninstall the old .msi based TV-Server and TV-Client-Plugin before you use the new NSIS based setup! If you do not you will certainly run into major problems!

UPDATE:
More information about the installation process, registry usage and silent installation can be found in our wiki.

Support MediaPortal!

The team works very hard to make sure the community is running the best HTPC-software. We give away MediaPortal for free but hosting and software is not for us.

Care to support our work with a few bucks? We'd really appreciate it!
